Setup Recommendations For Your Bike:
- CLOSED COURSE ONLY: This kit is for track use only, these tires not for street use!
- Rear Tire Fitment & Clearance:
For the Racer Conversions, we only use the 17x5" rear wheel with a 160-165 race tire, due to available sizes of the supermoto-specific race tires.
Building an RM/RMZ with the 17x5 rear wheel and 160-165 race tire requires extra attention & effort during the initial setup and during wheel changes. The rear wheel must be positioned at the back of the swingarm to avoid rubbing on the right side of the swingarm where it tapers inward. This means playing with sprocket sizes so that the chain is properly tensioned, but also so the wheel is sitting within the last few alignment marks on the axle adjusters. This setup and axle adjustment is critical since moving the tire too far forward will cause it to rub on the right side and there's only so far back to move before the end of the axle adjustment. The perfect setup and install provides just a couple millimeters of clearance on the right side of the tire.
- Fork Guard Clearance:
Fork guards will need to be slightly trimmed near the edge of the tire, to prevent rubbing.
- Front Brake Line Routing:
When bolting the caliper back on with the new 320mm rotor, it's best to route the brake line on the inside of the fork leg to avoid any outside impact. This can prevent the line from being ripped off and ending your ride or race. Carefully route the line by positioning enough slack on the caliper side of the brake line clamp to allow the line to sit directly between the rim and the rotor. Avoid letting the line sag or sit loosely. If necessary, you can secure the line to the inside of the fork guard by drilling small holes through the guard and zip-tying the line in place. See picture for example.
- Rear Tire Fitment For Rim Size:
160-165 rear on 17x5.00.
- Avoiding Chain Rub On Rear Tire:
The Chain Block is absolutely critical to avoid chain slap and a greasy tire. Proper installation of the chain block with the wheel positioned further in the back of the swingarm will provide just a couple millimeters of clearance on either side of the tire. This is as tight as it gets and just barely works!
- Colors & Cleaning:
White and lighter colors are harder to keep clean, as well as matte finishes. Powder coat finishes are smooth and can be easier to clean. All finishes can be damaged by brake cleaner and other harsh chemicals! Dish soap in a spray bottle is a great option, but no matter the cleaner, always rinse parts right away.
